EPR Credits and Certificates: Producers can either collect and recycle e-waste directly or buy EPR credits from registered recyclers who have done the processing on their behalf.
Reporting and Record Keeping: Periodic reporting to the CPCB, which includes e-waste collection, transportation, and recycling data, is compulsory. All records are to be carefully kept for audits.
Use of Registered Recyclers: Only registered and CPCB-registered recyclers can be hired for the treatment of e-waste to guarantee traceability and transparency.
Knowledge of EPR Credits
EPR credits are a market mechanism that enables producers to meet their compliance requirements by buying credits equivalent to the volume of e-waste recycled. These credits are created by CPCB-registered recyclers who record their recycling activity and sell credits to producers who are required to achieve their targets.
This framework provides businesses with flexibility while encouraging investment in formal recycling facilities. It also serves to stem the illegal and informal processing of e-waste, which can be extremely harmful to human health as well as the environment.
